welcome to my Blog
Dimension: each 8" X 10" This piece is for Rhode Island School of Design. My instrument is candle and I use different ways to burn it in order to express four feelings, angry, crazy, gloomy, and sad.
Dimension: B5 paper These pieces is for Cornell University. These places are where I have lived, Shanghai and Vancouver.
dimension: 16" X 20" This bicycle drawing is for Rhode Island School Of Design, in order to show my pencil drawing techniques.
Dimension: 11" X 8.5" X 2" Communication is the antidote to loneliness. When we read books, we intend to fill our inner loneliness. However, of we read a lot but do not share with others or communicate with others, we are still lonely and the loneliness will because devour from inside to outside.
Dimension: 16" X 20" Each When something loses a part, it loses its original meaning. In this piece, I explored this idea through numerical value and Chinese characters. I use pi/π to represent rationality and Chinese characters to represent irrationality. When pi/π lose one number it is no longer a pi/π. When traditional Chinese becomes simplified, it loses its original meaning. How one can love without using heart. How one can teach without moral. How one can be intimate without seeing each other.
Dimension: 22" X 22" Each In this piece, I want to talk about social confinement and stereotype. When things or people are confined in stereotype, we only see them through a prejudiced lens. They lose their uniqueness. I use circle because it represents restriction when everything is being rounded up. In this painting, the animal pattern can represent a diversity of different people. I use wood because it is the foundation of the world. Everything comes from the foundation.
Dimension: each 15CM X 11CM In this life journal, I intend to draw my understanding of life and the experiences I had. Each picture contains a unique story, and each unfolds a moral of the experience.
Dimension:16" X 20" In this drawing, I intend to show my personalities. The title "Google: Self-portrait..." means finding oneself. Instead of focusing on the appearance, I want people to find my personalities. I created a new table of symbols which can be represented by alphabets. Even though the symbols look the same from the outside, their inner content are different and unique, which are represented by the use of watercolour. I want people first think about what those symbols are by observing their content. Then I want people to try figuring out what alphabet is being symbolized. Lastly, by combining these clues, people should be able to decipher the actual words hidden in the drawing. I use watercolour because it is able to blend and can be mixed together. It expresses the meaning of different personality mixing together and the different combinations that will be made.
Dimension: EACH 4" X 3" I did this project in order to express my understanding of the earth's balance. I used nine different objects to represent the nine main elements in our environment: air, plants, metal, wood, organism, pollution, fire, polluted water, and chemicals. A single glass bowl with another stacked on top will not be balanced, so I arranged them into such way that they will be balanced. I am trying to find balance from the unbalance. It is like in our nature, even though there are both good and bad things, they always try to balance with each other.
Dimension: Each 13cm X 10 cm By doing this project, I want to express my idea about choices. I think people need to think carefully before making a choice because there is no chance for regret. Everyone needs to be responsible for the result of their choices. I named this project "Y" because two reasons. Firstly, "Y" has the the same pronunciation as "why" which is asking people why you make this choice. In addition, "Y" has one branch on the bottom but two branches on the top, which represents that everybody starts from the same place, but they will face different choices in life. Some people may choose to go left, the others may choose to go right. When one chooses one side, one does not know what will happen. There is no right or wrong about the choices. People are gaining different results not because they choose the right side, but because they envisage their choices.
